In today’s post, I will share with you how I made over our boring junk room into an actual guest room! Its bold and beautiful accent wall was easy to create thanks to Rocky Mountain Decals‘ removable wallpaper. Yes, I said removable as in peel and stick! Whether you are an owner or a renter; you don’t have to worry about what to do if you decide to change the look of the room in the future or if you decide to move out… simply peel off the wall paper and the wall looks the same way it did before you put the wall paper up! Be sure to check Rock Mountain Decals out here to see more of the designs they offer and keep reading below to see how I installed their wall paper in my guest room.
Supplies I used:
– A damp cloth to clean the wall
– Screwdriver to remove electrical outlet faceplates
– Utility knife
-All the items Rocky Mountain Decals sends with every wallpaper/wall decal package, shown below.
The First Step:
I first unrolled all the wallpaper panels so they had at least an hour to relax before being applied to my walls. Rocky Mountain Decals numbers the wallpaper panels; I’ll talk more about this shortly but if you are doing this project yourself just make a mental note of where the numbers are located on each panel.
Now it’s time to prep the walls. This wall was already blank for me, but if you are going to do this project at your own house be sure to take everything off the wall, fill in any holes, and then wipe it all down with a clean damp cloth. Fortunately for me all I had to do to prep this wall was remove the electrical box face plates and wipe it down.
Now the fun begins!
Now it was time to apply the wallpaper panels. Those numbers printed on the back of each panel that I mentioned earlier made it very easy to keep track of what panel went next. The end result of placing the panels via this numbering system was the creation of an almost seamless pattern on my feature wall.
To install the panel, I simply peeled back an even layer of the wallpaper panel backing and lined it up with the ceiling. Then I pressed it onto the wall being sure I was applying it in a straight line. I got a little off track a few times; but this was another area where Rocky Mountain Decals removable wall paper and decals stand out: I simply peeled the wall paper back and reapplied it. This didn’t appear to harm the wall paper (or my wall!) in any way. The wallpaper is very good quality, more of a thick woven paper.
Rocky Mountain Decals sends the panels in small enough sections that they were not too large to place on the wall myself. I did the whole project myself in a little over an hour; overall I thought it was pretty easy but some folks may appreciate a little help from another person.
I used my hands to smooth out the wall paper (going from the center to the outside edges). I then went back over that same section with the scraper Rocky Mountain Decals supplied to get a super smooth finish.
Once all the wallpaper was hung I took the scraper tool and used it on the wall paper near the baseboards to get a crisp line. I then took my utility knife to cut off all the excess wallpaper. This was just as easy as it sounds.
I repeated the same process for the wall outlets I needed cut out.

The wallpaper has transformed this guest room into a beautiful retreat! I love the pale mauve pink flowers with the sage green leaves.
