Today I am sharing how my friends gave their fireplace a complete makeover! They took their dated 1990’s wood burning fireplace with green marble and turned it into a beautiful modern gas fireplace!
This was the starting point of the dated fireplace. It all needed to go.
The first step was to remove all the surrounding stone and existing drywall.
Next step was to take out the wood stove and replace it with a modern gas fireplace insert.
They used three items to fill in the drywall seems: drywall joint tape, flat scraper and drywall premixed mud.
Next they dry fitted their new hand scraped fireplace mantel (purchased from Amazon for under $250).
Next step was to apply the tile. They chose Anatolia Tile’s Mystery Ledgestone which was purchased at Lowes.
Here is the final result! I think it looks much cleaner, is much more modern, and this particular gas insert is far better at heating the living room (if desired) than the old wood stove. Subscribe for more DIY home projects and room makeovers!
