Strawberry shortcake biscuit recipe, I know its a mouth full but I promise your mouth will water when you taste this deliciousness. It’s the perfect summer dessert recipe that you can have for breakfast too! I love biscuits but didn’t want it to be as heavy as them or as light as cake so I threw a few things together and got this wonderful biscuit cake recipes out of it. Feel free to top it with your favorite fruits not just strawberries.
Now lets cut to the deliciousness already and make this beautiful dessert recipe.
Step 1: Start by combining all the dry ingredients and mix.
Step 2: cut in your cold butter with a pastry cutter till its in small bits with the dry ingredients.
Step 3: combine the milk, sourdough starter and vanilla and mix into the dry mixture. If you don’t have sourdough discard just use all milk or do half heavy cream and half water. Its adaptable. The batter should be thick and not dry. You are looking for a wet biscuit dough basically.
Step 4: line a ceramic baking dish or cake pan with parchment paper, grease the sides and transfer the thick batter to the dish and bake at 350’F for 25-30 minutes till a toothpick comes out clean.
Step 5: clean and cut your strawberries and add 1-2 Tbsp of sugar to them, mix them up and tll create a sweet syrup that pairs great with the biscuit cake.
Step 6: Make the homemade whipped cream simply combine 1 cup heavy whipping cream, 2-3 tbsp of sugar and splash of vanilla extract and whip it up with a hand mixer ( had this one 16yrs now and still going strong) till you have stiff cream, just a few minutes.
Step 7: Once the cake is cooled top it with the whipped cream and strawberries and serve. It hold up fine in the fridge for a day or so.
Step 8: Serve and enjoy anytime of the day!
